High Skills, High Wages

State statute directs the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board to update the strategic plan for Washington's workforce development system, High Skills, High Wages, every two years.

The Road to High Skills, High Wages 2008

The Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board has started the process for developing the 2008 edition of High Skills, High Wages. Work groups are forming around three areas: Adults, Youth and Industry. To participate in one of these work groups, contact Madeleine Thompson at mthompson@wtb.wa.gov (360-753-6553). Meeting materials and agenda will be sent to confirmed participants a week prior to each meeting.

Adults
This group will focus on workforce development issues concerning adults, and adults with barriers to education and employment. The group will examine issues and strategies, including ways to improve education and training access and results for targeted populations.

The adult work group will meet in Room A of the John A. Cherberg Room, on the Capitol Campus in Olympia:

May 1, 2008...................1 pm to 4 pm

Adult Work Group Strategic Framework

Workforce Board Members co-chairing the Adult work group: Commissioner of Employment Security, Karen Lee and Lynnae Ruttledge of the Department of Social and Health Services.

Youth
This work group will focus on workforce development issues concerning youth in general and disadvantaged youth. The group will examine issues and strategies, including ways to encourage high school completion and strengthen career and technical education options.

The youth work group will meet in the West Room at the offices of the Seattle-KingWorkforce Development Council, 2003 Western Avenue, Suite 250. in Seattle

Workforce Board Members co-chairing the Youth work group: Beth Thew with the Spokane Regional Labor Council and Creigh Agnew (director, Sterling Savings Bank, formerly vice-president of governmental relations at Weyerhaeuser Company).

Industry
This work group will focus on industry-related issues including ways to meet the needs of employers for highly skilled workers, the development of industry cluster strategies,and find ways to better link workforce and economic development.

The industry work group will meet at the offices of the Tacoma Workforce Development Council. Get directions to 3650 South Cedar Street in Tacoma.
