Workforce Development System Review -- 2009

Governor Chris Gregoire has directed Karen Lee, commissioner of the state's Employment Security Department, Charlie Earl, executive director of the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and Workforce Board Director Eleni Papadakis to "conduct a review of our workforce development system that builds upon prior efforts for improvement and provide recommendations that will enhance the state's workforce training and services." The review, according to the Governor, should build off the findings in the 2007 Washington Works report.

Voice your opinion through online survey
Take a few minutes to complete this survey and provide feedback on the state's workforce system.

Message for those who have taken online survey: We recently discovered that a question under “Education and Training” in the online survey was posed incorrectly.  To ensure consistency between the online questions and questions being asked in our in-person focus groups, a special amended survey has been created for thos who have already taken the survey.

Attend a meeting and add your input
A series of meetings are being held across the state in October to get public input about the state's workforce development system. Governor Gregoire asked for the systemwide review in August and tapped the Workforce Board, State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and Employment Security Department to lead the process. A report is due to the Governor on December 1.

We invite you to join in these meetings and have your opinions heard in three key areas:

  • Strategic Direction
  • Education and Training
  • Operations

We encourage you to read the purpose statement to familiarize yourself with questions that will be asked during this process.
